Páll Hreinsson has been President of the EFTA Court since 1 January 2018, having served as a judge of the Court since September 2011. An Icelandic jurist, he holds a Cand. Juris degree from the University of Iceland (1988), studied administrative law and public administration at the University of Copenhagen (1990–1991), and earned a Doctor Juris from the University of Iceland in 2005. Before joining the EFTA Court, he served as a judge of the Supreme Court of Iceland (2007–2011) and held academic positions at the University of Iceland, including Dean of its Faculty of Law. Earlier, he worked at the Parliamentary Ombudsman’s Office and as an assistant judge in Reykjavík. He has authored 13 books and 42 articles on administrative law, constitutional law and the law of obligations.
